The Enchanting Trail to Margaret Falls

Trail name: Margaret Falls

Trail Length: 1 kilometre, round trip

Trail Difficulty: Easy

Directions: The trail is located in Tappan, just outside of Salmon Arm. From the TransCanada Highway, turn onto Sunnybrae-Canoe Point Road. Travel for 14 kilometres, following the signs for Herald Provincial Park. Once you see the sign for Margret Falls, turn left into the parking lot.

Description:

The trail to Margaret Falls is just a small part of the 79 hectares in Herald Provincial Park to explore. This short but scenic trail is accessible all year round.

From the parking lot, we followed the trail to begin the walk along Reinecker Creek. The wide, marked pathway follows the creek with three crossing bridges leading up to a beautiful waterfall.

The first thing that caught my eye was how amazingly clear the water is! There is a cute little waterfall running under the first bridge which is actually the remains of a dam built by the Herald family. They used to use this to carry water by flumes to irrigate crops and help power machines.

As we got further into the canyon it was hard to stop looking up and around! The tall cedars reaching up for the sky, all the fallen trees, the tall limestone bedrock walls, and moss everywhere! The sound of rushing water grew louder as we got closer to the falls. Soon, Margaret Falls became visible. The rushing water running down the steep rock face is just beautiful. It was obvious there is a small cave behind the falls, but we definitely were not going to try to get in there! After enjoying the beauty of the falls we heading back through the enchanting forest to the parking lot.

It is important to stay on the marked trail. Severe damage is being done in the area by heavy foot traffic off the trail. Please help protect the natural environment and stick to the trails!
