An unforgettable experience at Albas Falls

Description:

Located in the North Shuswap area, Albas Falls Provincial Park has been one of my favorite locations since I was kid. This majestic trail loops around both sides of the creek to show off every angle of the many falls. The amazing amount of water running down Celista Creek is just outstanding!!

From the parking lot, we crossed the bridge and started the trail along the east side of the creek. The trail first took us through an enchanting lush green forest. Within a 1.5 km the sound of the water grew louder and it was obvious we were coming up to the first set of falls. Although the east side of the creek offers more of a bird's eye view, there is no need to go off trail because further on are the best viewpoints of each of the falls.

As we continued on and back into the woods, the trail becomes a bit steeper staying above the next four waterfalls. At about 2.2 km we found the other bridge to bring us back across the creek and down the west side. This is my favorite section of the trail, as it brings us down along the creek and very close to each set of falls! However, the spray from the two largest falls does not make it easy to go within 50 m of it without being soaked!

In the spring months when water levels are extremely high, it is very important to stay away from the edges as it is very dangerous! Please follow and obey the signs. The drive may be a long but definitely worth the trip! This fairly remote area offers great little camp sites (first come basis) along the Shuswap Lake for those that would like to make it more of a weekend getaway.

Always be mindful of your surroundings, pack out what you pack in, stick to the trails, and happy exploring!

Directions:

Located just before Seymour Arm's. From Salmon Arm, turn left off Hwy 1 onto Squilax-Anglemont Rd. Follow along for 46 Km and continue on to Ross-Ruckle Point FSR. Continue along the scenic forest service road for just over 30 km. Turn right at the sign for Albas Provincial Park. Drive down the dirt road until you reach a left hand turn to the parking lot.
Note: At the beginning of the Ross-Ruckle Point FSR there is a great set of falls along the side of the road called St. Ives Falls. It is a perfect stop to get out and stretch your legs!
