In British Columbia, we’re lucky to have so many places to spend an awesome summer vacation right in our backyard. Many adventurers opt to pack up their bags and spend the weekend camping at one of the many picturesque sites in the area, but the tenting life is not for everyone! Here are some sweet places to stay if you’re looking for more of a “glamping” experience this summer.
Distance from downtown Kelowna: 40 minutes
We’re spreading the word about the “best-kept secret on Okanagan Lake” because of its cottage vibes and closeness to home. The 20 cottages at Secret Point can be found up Westside Road and are set on a small hillside, right along Okanagan Lake, with free access to a boat launch. Just be sure to wait for water levels to be safe.
These family-friendly cottages can be rented on a nightly basis throughout most of the year, but can only be rented on a weekly basis during the popular summer months. They run around $400, per night, from the end of June to early September, but can fit up to six adults and two children under the age of 10.

If you’re looking to enjoy nature in seclusion this summer, one of the several cabins at Idabel Lake Resort, not far from Big White Ski Resort, could be the perfect solution. Embrace the simpler things in life in a rustic cottage on a lake, perfect for fishing and swimming. The resort even offers complimentary row boats, canoes and life jackets for guests!
A night at Idabel Lake Resort could cost anywhere from $160 - $300, depending on the cottage and time of year, and most can sleep up to six people.

Is there anything more quaint than a lakeside log cabin? That’s exactly what you’ll find at Pillar Lake Resort, between Vernon and Kamloops. Enjoy views of Pillar Lake, an on-site convenience store, nearby trails, and even boat rentals. Whether you feel like boating, canoeing, kayaking or pontooning, Pillar Lake Resort has got you covered.
A night’s stay at Pillar Lake Resort will set you back $80 - $140 per night. This is based on a two person occupancy, but it will only cost you an additional $10 per night for extra guests.
Distance from downtown Kelowna: 2 hours 45 minutes
Not far from Grand Forks you will find Christina Lake, a small community with several different cottage-like rental properties right on a warm, swimmable lake. Enjoy all of the outdoor fun that the region has to offer, including hiking, boating and horseback riding.

Looking for a little R & R? Look no further than Halcyon Hot Springs, located near Arrow Lake in Nakusp. Treat yourself in the natural, mineral pools or with a day at the spa without completely losing the rugged feel of camping.
With a multitude of different cabins, cottages and chalets to choose from, a night at Halcyon can cost anywhere from $130 - $450, per night, depending on the experience that you are looking for.

We are blessed to have access to so many beautiful lakes in the Okanagan, but sometimes there’s a craving for wide, open water and fresh salty air that can only be satisfied by the sea. The longer trip is definitely worth getting that taste of the ocean while staying in an adorable cabin, right off the shore at Ocean Village Resort in Tofino. These cabins are family friendly, right on the beach front, and full of charm.
To enjoy all that the island has to offer in one of the oceanfront cabins, you’ll likely be spending over $300 per night with a minimum three-night stay in the summer.

The lodges at Carmel Cove Resort on Shuswap Lake are the definition of indulgent glamping! Tasteful accommodations, beautiful views, a fitness center and even an outdoor pool amp up the luxury factor. Meanwhile, wooden lodges and the surrounding nature still lets you feel like you’re on a real B.C. summer getaway.
A stay at Carmel Cove isn’t cheap and might not be for everyone, but it’s worth checking out if you really feel like treating yourself!

Another Shuswap gem, the Tin Poppy Retreat is a whimsical and private place to stay this summer! Choose from one of the three unique accommodations, The Tin Poppy, the Violet Cabin or the Lavender House, to enjoy some alone time in nature and explore the beautiful Shuswap region.
A summer night at the Tin Poppy costs from $185 - $300, and must be enjoyed at least two at a time.
Distance from downtown Kelowna: 6 hours 15 minutes
Another secret that we’re excited to spread, “The Sunshine Coast’s biggest little secret”, will instil a nostalgia for summers past with its modern, cozy treehouses and deluxe cottages. Located in Halfmoon Bay, Secret Cove will leave you feeling like you’re in the middle of the wilderness when really there is a general store and marina just five minutes away. The area is also known for it’s awesome diving.
A stay in one of these cliff-hugging treehouses or spacious cabins can cost anywhere from $250 - $650 in the summer months.
Distance from downtown Kelowna: 5 hours 45 minutes
As suggested by the name, a stay at Cliffhouse Cottages comes with amazing views of the ocean from atop a remote cliff. This location offers total privacy while still being a short walk to a public beach, making it a perfect romantic getaway!
You’ll spend about $185 per night with a minimum two night stay at the Cliffhouse Cottages, which can sleep up to four people. The location also has a second accommodation, the Treehouse, which is set further back into the forest and costs $153 per night in the summer.
