Hotels look pretty clean on the outside but in reality they can actually be pretty filthy.
TravelMath has tested a number of surfaces at hotels and the results are in on what objects you should never touch when you’re on holiday in your hotel room.
A team of dirt diggers went to nine different hotels and collected 36 bacteria swabs.
At 3 and 4-star hotels the dirtiest place to touch is the bathroom sink followed by the remote, however in a 5-star hotel it’s the other way around.
The bacteria was measured in colony-forming units (CFUs) and the amount of CFUs found may actually disgust you.
The dirt was uncovered in 3-5 star hotels with 3-star hotels coming in with the least amount of germs. In higher-end hotels, even though they’re luxurious they tend to be a little less clean.
A number of hidden-camera exposes have revealed that some hotel personnel will wipe down a countertop with the same cloth as they used for the toilet.
We know however that hotels will never be impeccable but on your next getaway maybe remember to wash your hands often and bring some hand sanitizer or disinfectant.
