In Focus is our gift to the community. A way for us to help show our recognition for the people, businesses, and organizations that help make our city great. The team at KelownaNow.com is passionate about this community and the people that make it amazing. We want to show our friends, neighbours, family and colleagues that we notice them and the fabulous things that they do.

What is your name?
Lindsay Houghton.

Where are you from and how long have you lived in Kelowna?
I was born in Mission BC, just outside of Vancouver and have lived in Kelowna for 25 years.

Who is your favourite person to spend time with and why?
That’s easy, my two boys! My son Matthew, who is 10, and my husband Brad. They make me laugh every day and I’m thankful every single day for the two of them.

If you could go anywhere in the world right at this moment where would you go and why?
Disneyland, because it's the happiest place on earth.

What is your favourite local store in Kelowna and why?
I have a few, however, my two favorites are both located on Pandosy in the Mission. The Wardrobe Boutique and Blue Ginger. I can always find unique gifts and little treats for myself.

What is your favourite activity?
I love to be outdoors with my boys. We do a lot of camping in the summer and skiing in the winter. I also love to snuggle up by the fire and read a great book.

If you had to choose: pizza, tacos, or burgers?
Pizza for sure and it has to be homemade by my favorite Italian!

What is a hidden gem you enjoy in the Okanagan?
We are so fortunate to live in the Okanagan, there are so many beautiful ‘hidden gems’ here. I love hiking up in Wilden and Bear Creek or walking along the beach in Peachland.

What is the most embarrassing thing that has happened to you?
Well, I can’t tell you because I’d be embarrassed all over again!

What is the most inspiring thing that has happened to you?
Becoming a mom.

Tell us your favourite childhood memory.
I loved spending holidays at my Grandparents house here in Kelowna with my family. Easter egg hunts, Christmas vacations, summer vacations, it was the best.

Where do you volunteer or give back to in the community?
Dannburg is happy to donate every Christmas season to families in need. Our staff always goes above and beyond with their giving. We have also been a big supporter of the Poppy Campaign every year and we donate to other local organizations throughout the year.

If you could change one thing in the world what would it be?
I always wish for more kindness and I feel that it is up to us, as parents of young children, to instill the values of kindness and acceptance in our children so that the future will continue to be bright.

What is your favourite activity in Kelowna?
Anything outdoors!

Where would you sneak away to in Kelowna to spend some time alone?
Anywhere that I can see the beautiful lake view makes me happy.

Where would you like to see positive change in Kelowna and why?
I love Kelowna and think positive changes are always happening.

If you were granted one wish for work or in life, what would it be?
For everyone to enjoy what they have, life is unexpected.

Tell us something that not everyone may know about you.
I’m an open book, I think all my family and friends know it all!

What is the name of your business/organization?
Dannburg Flooring.

What does your business do?
We began as Dannburg Contract Floors, a small carpet and vinyl company catering only to local builders. To keep pace with the rapid development in the Okanagan Valley, we have evolved into Dannburg Flooring, a full-service floor and window covering company dedicated to providing exceptional customer service to our retail and commercial clients.

How do people connect with you through social media? (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, Pinterest)
We can be found on Facebook, Instagram and Houzz

Where can people find your business online?
dannburgflooring.com

Why did you get into/start this business?
I get asked that a lot! Dannburg is a Kelowna family owned and operated company, that will be celebrating 30 years in business in 2017. The Munt and Houghton families have been connected through friendship for many many years so when ‘Dad’ was retiring and ‘Son’ was taking over, I welcomed the opportunity to join the next generation family team.

What is the goal of your business?
To provide the best customer service in the flooring industry. We value the relationships we have created and never take those for granted

What has been your biggest struggle either in work or life?
At one point, it was a balance between work and life, but I’m truly fortunate because I have that now.

If you could start all over again would you do things the same or would things be different?
I don’t believe in regrets, everything happens for a reason. I would change nothing.

Why do you think it is important to shop local?
Local companies are owned by the people that live in our community and if we invest in those businesses, they are less likely to leave. I also feel that many of our unique shops, eateries and places we hang out help to make our community home.

Give someone that you think deserves a shout out and explain why!
I'm going to be totally sappy here, my Mom! She taught me about hard work, honesty and always being respectful to myself and others. I owe her so much.

My nomination for the In Focus spotlight is:
Jeff Houghton. He's the owner of H&H Homes, and no, he is not related!

Other information you would like to share:
As we approach our milestone anniversary of 30 years in business, it should be said that our growth and success is thanks to the amazing community of businesses in Kelowna that support us every day. We look forward to the next 30! Thank you!
