In case it rains on Mother's Day, curling up with a bowl of popcorn and a movie on Mother's Day might be the best way to spend it. But that's only if you need an excuse to have a movie day.
Whether or not it rains, here are five movies for a variety of moms to enjoy:
1. Step Mom
You don't have to be a step-mom to enjoy this Julia Roberts and Susan Surandon classic.
If anything, it sheds light on the mashing of families that is far more common today than when the movie was released in 1998.
There's room for laughter and tears in this one.
2. Freaky Friday
If you haven't seen this flick, prepare for some cheesy comedy. But once you're prepared, you're bound to have a few laughs.
This classic and literal put-yourself-in-their-shoes tale gives Jamie Lee Curtis a great opportunity to play a comedic role.
3. Mother's Day
Released in 2016, Mother's Day shows the complex dynamics that make up family.
It reminds us that when it comes to families, often the term 'normal' should only be used for a setting on a dryer.
4. Mamma Mia
In the mood for a musical? It's either a love-or-hate relationship with this flick.
On the one hand, Meryl Streep can sing and on the other hand, Pierce Brosnan most certainly cannot.
It's challenge by choice on this flick. If you like musicals, Abba, or the country Greece, there just might be something here for you.
5. Bend It Like Beckham
Keira Knightley plays a daughter who goes against strict family traditions in order to indulge in her one love: soccer.
For the mothers with daughters who fail to stick to conventions, here's a flick with lots of laughs.
"Make those mosquito bites look like juicy, juicy mangoes," is just one of the lines you'll get out of this comedy.
It seems to be the trend that most Mother's Day-style movies focus on the mother-daughter relationship. However, whether your a son or daughter, just ask your mom what she wants to watch. It may be that Alien or Terminator is her favourite flick because that's something you both watched together.
