Get Local with PrinceGeorgeNow: featuring The Salted Cracker

For this edition of Get Local, we're featuring the talented Head Chef Jordan Reinitz and his delicious concoctions at The Salted Cracker.

The Salted Cracker

It all began just a few short years ago. The Salted Cracker broke through the Prince George foodie scene and has dominated the ranks ever since.

It quickly became evident that one location just wouldn’t suffice in serving the soup and sandwich needs of our beloved community.

With quality, fresh veggies and flavors that pack a serious punch, it’s no wonder The Salted Cracker has become a fan favorite for healthy and delicious fast-food.

So ditch the fries, grease and saturated fats, and hit up one of the four Salted Cracker locations within the city.

The PrinceGeorgeNow team had a chance to catch up with head chef Jordan Reinitz to get the scoop on his creative soup inspirations.

He told us he often conjures up ideas from nostalgic family gatherings from his childhood.

The cheesy ham and scalloped potato soup was the prodigy of a memorable Thanksgiving Dinner at his grandparents’ house many years ago.

We asked Reinitz what his personal favorite was, to which he replied, “It’s the brie, fig and bacon sandwich. We use maple smoked bacon, double cream brie and a house-made fig jam with a touch of vanilla and balsamic. It’s all squished between grilled sourdough bread, the perfect balance of sweet and salty flavours.”

Reinitz has been making a culinary name for himself since he was just 13-years-old. He began as a line cook at a local restaurant in PG, and managed to complete a Culinary Arts Degree through CNC before he graduated high-school.

Now with over 15 years experience under his belt, Reinitz has found his groove at The Salted Cracker since its debut.

He is proud to offer customers a wide variety of in-house made soups, including many vegan, vegetarian and gluten-friendly varieties.

The four locations also serve up insanely good grilled-cheese sandwiches, wraps, salads, along with various delectable treats and beverages.

Check out The Salted Cracker menu page for their updated list of daily features.

And in case you aren’t aware of this highly addicting dish, we highly recommend trying the Butter Chicken Soup. Reinitz says it’s so popular that he doubles the recipe quantity and still runs out!

Other top contenders are the Baked Potato Soup, Dill Pickle Soup and the all-mighty Tangy Thai Curry.

Fun fact: Between the four locations, The Salted Cracker prepares almost 2,000 pounds of fresh vegetables each week!

Why we love it: They serve four different soups every single day. There’s always something new and exciting to try. For those who like a little consistency, there are also four soups that permanently reside on the menu. Yep- eight soups in total!
