Thunderstorms and Rain Expected for BC Interior

A Special Weather Statement has been issued for the BC Interior as heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to pass over the region Wednesday through Thursday.

An area of low pressure will cross over the area and will produce heavy showers and thunderstorms beginning on Wednesday. Anywhere from 25 to 50 mm of rain is expected to fall and according to Environment Canada it could occur in short periods of time.

The following areas are covered under the Special Weather Statement:

Fraser Canyon
Nicola
Similkameen
Okanagan Valley
Shuswap
Arrow Lakes - Slocan Lake
Boundary
West Kootenay
Kootenay Lake
East Kootenay
Elk Valley
West Columbia

There is also the potential for severe weather producing lightning, wind gusts and hail. The heavy precipitation and thunderstorms are expected to last Wednesday through to Thursday. For the latest information visit the Environment Canada website.
