The District of Summerland has elected a new mayor and council and the race was tight as many vied for the chair after Janice Perrino announced she was stepping down.
Five names were on the ballot for mayor but with 1,197 votes the new mayor will be former councillor Peter Waterman. Waterman was closely followed by Roch Fortin who received 1,120 votes. Only two votes separated Orv Robson and David Gregory as they received 1,003 and 1,005 votes respectively. Christopher Boisvert-Gilman received 103 votes in the 2014 election.
A total of six councillors were voted into council and those were: Doug Holmes (1,650 votes), Erin Carlson (2096 votes), Erin Trainer (2,214 votes), Janet Peake (1,707 votes), Toni Boot (2,819 votes) and Richard Barkwill (1,843 votes).
Toni Boot received the most attention while running for council as she had some of her election signs damaged with racist remarks. She managed to gain the most votes out of any candidate running in Summerland.
All numbers are preliminary until made official by Chief Election Officers.
