VIDEO: Moon jellies captured in dreamy video along BC coast

Did you know that these dreamy jellyfish can be seen in large numbers in British Columbia waters?

A video of a “smack” of moon jellies was recently shared by Fisheries and Oceans Canada (DFO), taken near Gwaii Haanas National Park in BC.

Video credit: DFO Science, Joanne Lessard, Matt Grinnell and Seaton Taylor.

Joanne Lessard, a marine biologist with the DFO, told NowMedia that the video is of an aggregation of moon jellyfish in 2015 in the Atli Inlet.

Lessard was with a group doing a benthic habitat mapping survey on the east side of Gwaii Haanas.

The DFO science team just happened to be in the right place at the right time to witness the gathering of jellies.

Lessard added that they were able to see the moon jellyfish again in 2015 at several locations in Gwaii Haanas, as well as in 2018 on the west coast of Haida Gwaii.
