Video surveillance from a West Kelowna neighborhood has confirmed what many residents have been worried about for months.
After becoming the latest victim in a rash of vehicle breaks-ins in his Shannon Way neighborhood, resident Mike Young posted footage to social media of a thief he says broke into two vehicles and stole thousands of dollars worth of tools.
Mike Young posted the footage Saturday evening, November 18th saying the theft happened shortly before 5 a.m. that day.
One video shows the thief attempting to enter a home in the neighborhood as well.
"My neighbour has video surveillance, so we checked to see if they had caught the guy breaking into my truck on video. That's when we realized the thief had gone up their front door and tried to get into their house," said Young.
"That's incredibly scary, there are two women that live there and the thought of what could have happened is terrible."
Young uploaded the three clips to Facebook, where it has been viewed over 55,000 times and received plenty of comments from concerned residents.
"It's a crime that is not followed up on and these criminals are becoming more brazen because they know there are no consequences," said Young.
"It's sad that we expect to have this happen again soon. Everyone in the neighborhood has kids, so to see someone try to break into a house is terrifying and there seems to be nothing being done about it."
If you recognize the man in the footage or have any information that may help catch the thief, phone the Kelowna RCMP at 250-762-3300.
