Outgoing Prime Minister Stephen Harper extended his congratulations to the Liberal government after results from the 2015 Federal Election have polled in favour of Justin Trudeau.
“The Canadian population has elected a Liberal government, a result that we accept without hesitation,” said Harper. “For the past nine and a half years, it has been an unbelievable honour to serve as your Prime Minister. It has been a great experience to again meet Canadians from coast to coast to coast during the last two and a half months of this campaign. We gave everything we had to give and we have no regrets what so ever. Friends, how could we? We remain citizens of the best country on earth.”
During his election speech, Stephen Harper reiterated a few of his election platforms, specifically in regards to the economy.
“We believe that Canadians that are working hard should keep more money in their own pockets, because we believe the government should manage the people’s money the way people manage their own.”
“Canada, must without apology, advance our values, defend our interests, and stand by our friends. And tonight, we’ve been able to elect a strong opposition to the Parliament of Canada,” added Harper.
Ending on a more somber note, the former Prime Minister had this to say:
“For all of those who have over the past decade and a half built our party and contributed to our campaign, you have our deepest gratitude and you should feel nothing but pride,” said Harper. “Know also this as well, the disappointment you also feel is my responsibility and mine alone. But know this for certain, when the next time comes, this party will offer Canadians a strong and clear alternative based on our Conservative values.”
There are unconfirmed reports that Stephen Harper is resigning from the Conservative Party; however, he did not confirm this report during his election speech on Monday night.
