A 12 vehicle crash in Toronto has left multiple people dead.

On Friday evening, just before 10 p.m., the Ontario Provincial Police (OPP) were called to a serious crash on Highway 400 southbound, in the City of Toronto.
The crash involved 12 vehicles, including three commercial transport trucks.
According to an OPP press release, police are working with the coroner to confirm the number of fatalities in the evening collision and are working to notify the next of kin.

Five people died, two people were transported to hospital with non-life threatening injuries and several people sustained minor injuries, but remained at the scene.
In a periscope broadcast, Sgt. Kerry Schmidt said that a fire consumed the trailer of one of the trucks as well as two other vehicles.

In a second periscope interview, Andrew Collins with the OPP said this was one of the worst crashes he has seen in his life.

The highway remains closed as workers remove the vehicles involved in the collision.
