It was another successful year for the CP Holiday Train.
For the 21st year, the trains went on tour and stopped on more than 170 communities in Canada and the United States, providing entertainment and holiday magic.
It’s about far more than that, however, as it serves as a massive fundraising effort to raise money and collect food for food banks across the country.
The final numbers are still being calculated, but CP says this year’s tour brought in $1.49 million and 238,393 lbs of food.
Since the inaugural journey in 1999, more than $16.7 million has been raised and 4.7 million lbs of food has been collected.
"Partnering with local food banks to raise awareness for hunger-related issues is the cornerstone that enables the success of the Holiday Train,” says Keith Creel, president and CEO of CP.
“Watching communities come out to celebrate and donate generously reminds us why the program continues to be so important."
This year, Madeline Merlo, Scott Helman, Terri Clark and Dallas Smith all provided entertainment on the Canadian run.
In the USA, Alan Doyle and the Beautiful Band, Meghan Patrick, Tanika Charles, Kelly Prescott and Vishten all performed at various stops.
