Health Canada has issued a nationwide public advisory after numerous illegal ‘copycat’ edible cannabis products have sent several children to the hospital.
The illegal cannabis products are packaged to look like popular brands of candy or snacks that are typically sold at grocery stores, gas stations and corner stores.
Parents and children may not be able to recognize these products as anything other than their favourite foods.
Unregulated ‘ copycat’ products can contain high amounts of THC, which increases the risk of experiencing adverse effects or cannabis poisoning.
Although cannabis products arent known to be fatal, children and pets are at a higher risk to feel numerous side effects.
Illicit products with flashy packaging, pictures, catchy names, strange THC symbols are illegal and unregulated.
Legal cannabis products are packaged in plain packaging, which helps reduce their appeal to youth and avoids confusion with other products.
Health Canada suggests that if you possess cannabis, store it securely away from children, teens, and pets.
