Dorothy McEachern has known Dr. Crippen of DermMedica for about five years, and throughout that time they have built a strong relationship as patient and doctor. Dorothy first started coming in for spider veins, and has since added a little bit of Botox here and there.
“Dr. Crippen was always so comfortable to talk to, down to earth, realistic and made me feel very comfortable,” said Dorothy. “So I thought that if I ever wanted to go a little bit further into different types of procedures, he would be the guy I would go to.”
One of these procedures is a non-invasive fat reduction treatment called CoolSculpting, which Dr. Crippen discovered while attending a laser and aesthetic conference at Harvard University in Boston, where this new procedure was invented. DermMedica became the first clinic in the Okanagan to perform CoolSculpting back in 2011 and ever since Dr. Crippen and the team have performed CoolSculpting to crystallize and permanently eliminate fat in a natural way.
When Dorothy decided to learn more about CoolSculpting, she didn't take her research on the procedure lightly.
“I read all the pamphlets and even did some extra research online by reading different testimonials, which I found covered most of it. So by the time I met for a consultation, I didn’t really have any questions, but I knew that if I did, Dr. Crippen was readily available.”
Dorothy added that she liked the fact that there was little ‘downtime’ and that it was a non-invasive procedure — with more consistent results compared to other procedures such as liposuction.
“Also, I trust Dr. Crippen. As I have been to see him a few times over the years and feel very comfortable with him, his staff and his approach.”
Before the CoolSculpting procedure, she met with DermMedica’s Laser & CoolSculpting Specialist, Jessica, who Dorothy explains went over everything from expectations to results very well.
“We spent quite a bit of time consulting and pointing to the area that we were doing and how it would affect that area, she even went so far as to find a picture of somebody that had a similar ‘before’ type of body area as me so we had expectations of what it would look like. Jessica was good, she went over everything very well and it was more than I expected.”
While looking into CoolSculpting, Dorothy hoped that because she was having the procedure in her abdomen area, a woman her age would get results because it seemed like it didn’t matter how much she’d work out, the stubborn areas would remain.
“I go to yoga three, four times a week, there’s always going to be some problem areas, so I’m really hoping I can see some diminishment in that.”
Dorothy continued to add that she’s hoping to eat the same, continue to work out and if she loses a little bit of weight in her abdomen, she’d be pretty happy.
The video above concludes with Dorothy's testimonial that CoolSculpting was very comfortable, and based on what she’d seen and felt so far, she’d highly recommend it to any of her friends who were interested.
Within a day of doing this procedure, Dorothy was back doing yoga and activities as normal.
About two weeks after the procedure, we caught up with Dorothy to see how she was feeling.
“It’s still a bit early, with only two weeks since the procedure, but I went through some bruising and swelling the first week, but in the second week, I noticed that all the swelling and bruising is gone!”
Although the team at DermMedica advised Dorothy that the true results will be much more visible within one to four months, she’s already noticed improvements, and she’s not the only one.
“My husband has been a huge supporter in this journey — he tells me that the area treated looks more toned and firm already, so that is very positive news.”
Dorothy has a vacation coming up so the timing couldn’t have been better!
“I will be excited to put on a bathing suit for sure!”
They’re travelling south in mid-January, and from the testimonials and information she researched, Dorothy expects to see quite a difference by then, as that will be the two-month mark.
“I’m positive that the results I’ve seen thus far will be even better by then. Also, I have several girlfriends that have heard of and are interested in CoolSculpting, so I am happy to share my journey and results with them.”
The team at DermMedica, along with Dr. Crippen, are Kelowna’s CoolSculpting introducers, and their experience and innovation towards this revolutionary new technology can eliminate fat permanently by freezing it, with no downtime — so just like Dorothy, you can exercise, work, and do anything you would normally do soon after.
“I’m so happy with DermMedica. Jessica was amazing during and after the procedure and answered all my questions. It really wasn’t all that uncomfortable (not as much as I had read about) — and with the results, I’m expecting it should be 100% worth it all! Big thanks to Dr. Crippen and all his wonderful staff for making me feel so comfortable and special during and after this procedure. They are truly the best!”
