The government of Canada will be matching Canadians’ donations dollar for dollar to Nepal earthquake aid.
Minister Christian Paradis of International Development and Minister Rob Nicholson of Foreign Affairs announced the Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund on Monday. Every eligible dollar that individual Canadians donate between April 25th and May 25th to registered Canadian charities for the earthquake impact will be matched with one dollar for the Nepal Earthquake Relief Fund.
The money raised through the fund will then support the work of many Canadian and international humanitarian and development organizations responding to the earthquake. Canada has also deployed an assessment team and parts of the Disaster Assistance Response Team (DART) to Nepal.
The death toll is still rising for the massive 7.8 magnitude earthquake that struck Nepal on Saturday, April 25th.
