A 4th CEO has quit Trump's American Manufacturing Council

The backlash against President Trump continues after this past weekend’s events in Virginia.

Scott Paul, president of the Alliance for American Manufacturing, stepped down from the American Manufacturing Council on Tuesday, making him the fourth CEO to do so.

He’s following in the footsteps of Merck CEO Ken Frazier, Under Armour CEO Kevin Plank and Intel CEO Brian Krzanich.

Trump doesn’t seem to be fazed, however, as he tweeted out that he has many CEOs lined up to take the place of any that drop out of the council.

The tweet was actually in response to the first three CEOs leaving the council, as Paul’s announcement came 16 minutes later.

Paul made the announcement through a short tweet, but the other three CEOs all released statements explaining why they had decided to leave the council.

“I resigned to call attention to the serious harm our divided political climate is causing to critical issues, including the serious need to address the decline of American manufacturing,” said Intel’s Brian Krzanich. “Politics and political agendas have sidelined the important mission of rebuilding America’s manufacturing.

Merck’s Ken Frazier gave his thoughts in a statement as well.

“Our country’s strength stems from its diversity and the contributions made by men and women of different faiths, sexual orientations and political beliefs,” he said. “America’s leaders must honour our fundamental values by clearly rejecting expressions of hatred, bigotry and group supremacy, which run counter to the American ideal that all people are created equal.”

Meanwhile, Under Armour’s Kevin Plank talked about joining the council because it was important to have an active seat at the table, but added that “Under Armour engages in innovation and sports, not politics.”

Trump hasn’t revealed when he will name replacements for the four CEOs.
