NYC attack suspect identified as Sayfullo Saipov

(UPDATE: November 1st @ 9:00 a.m.)

On the morning of Wednesday, November 1st, a joint-agency media briefing was held in New York City.

The 29-year-old male suspect has been identified as Sayfullo Saipov and is a legal resident of the U.S.

He arrived from Uzbekistan in 2010 and is not a known suspect to police or the FBI.

However, police and FBI units are now investigating the suspect's connectivity to other known suspects to the FBI.

John Miller, the Deputy Commissioner for Counterterrorism and Intelligence for NYPD said the suspect in custody, Saipov, had been planning the attack for weeks and had done it in the name of ISIS.

After the attack on Tuesday, detectives found hand-written notes in Arabic in the suspect's truck.

According to Miller, the notes read, "The Islamic State would endure forever."

After the attack, the suspect was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Bellevue and the joint task force is waiting to hear his condition.

However, he has been interviewed, and the conversations are being kept confidential while the investigation continues.

NYPD Officer, Ryan Nash, is being hailed as a hero, after he took down the suspect and shot him in the abdomen. Officer Nash has only been on the force for five years.

Meanwhile, the City is gearing up for the NYC Marathon, happening this Sunday, November 5th.

The City is expecting 51,000 runners and 2.5 million spectators. In preparation of the event, the City has more than doubled police security to the largest its ever been.

The marathon route will have police in uniform and in everyday dress, throughout the race, including observation teams, counter sniper teams, helicopters, and more.

The FBI is asking anyone with information, including videos or photos to send them to the following link:

Mayor de Blasio has declared the incident an act of terror, which resulted in the death of eight people and 11 serious injuries, so far.

According to NYPD Commissioner, O'Neil, at approximately 3:05 p.m., a male driving a rented Home Depot pick-up truck entered the Westside Highway bike path at Houston Street and driving southbound, struck pedestrians and cyclists.

At Chambers Street, the truck collided with a school bus, injuring two adults and two children.

After the collision, the suspect, a 29-year-old male, got out of the truck brandishing two handguns.

The suspect's identity is not being release as the investigation is ongoing.

So far, there have been eight fatalities and 11 people transported to the hospital with serious injuries.

“Our thoughts and prayers are with the family," said New York Governor, Andrew Cuomo. "It reminds us all how precious life is. They left the house this morning. They were enjoying the beautiful westside of Manhattan on a beautiful fall day and they're not going to be returning home. And that shock and that pain is going to be very real and our thoughts and our prayers are with all of them."

Governor Cuomo and NYPD Commissioner O'Neil told media that this was a lone wolf act of terror and there is no evidence of any ongoing threats.

Police security will be added to the streets, tunnels and airports - just to be vigilant, said Governor Cuomo.
