This amazing story might make you tear up.
The ‘Camp Fire’ tore through Paradise, California, but this clever and loyal pup named Madison somehow survived and managed to guard his burned down home for weeks.
K9 Paw Print Rescue shared the story on Facebook, saying that Madison’s owners were unable to get home to him when the Camp Fire spread. Shayla Sullivan was the rescuer that went to the property to feed and water Madison after the fire just in case he still there.
As for Madison’s owners, they “hoped and prayed he would be okay.”
“When they finally got clearance to go back to the lot where their house once stood, Madison was waiting there for them as if he were protecting his former home,” said K9 Paw Print Rescue in an update this week.
Sullivan wrote that Madison also had a brother named Miguel that they managed to find, but that at the time there was no sign of Madison.
She put out fresh food and water at the property and scouted social media to see if he would turn up somewhere.
Eventually she did see Madison, but said she “knew he took his job seriously and wasn’t going to be an easy catch.”
“After meeting Andrea (Madison’s owner) in person when I took Miguel to her, I had the idea of placing an article of clothing that would smell like her - i had hugged - to keep Madison’s hope alive until his people could return,” Sullivan said. “Well, I’m so happy to report that Andrea was allowed to return to her property today and there Madison was. He stayed to protect what was left of his home and never gave up on his people!”
“A long month it must have been for him!” she said.
This good boy deserves some extra treats and belly rubs after this heartwarming reunion!
