King Charles has cancer, Buckingham Palace has announced.
Canada’s monarch, who is 75, was diagnosed recently after undergoing a procedure for a benign enlarged prostate.
Buckingham Palace did not say whether the cancer was in the King’s prostate, only that “tests have identified a form of cancer.”
His media team said the cancer was a “separate issue of concern” from the enlarged prostate.
Charles will now commence “regular treatments” for his cancer.
He will postpone public-facing duties during the treatment, Buckingham Palace said.
“Throughout this period, His Majesty will continue to undertake State business and official paperwork as usual,” the palace’s statement explains.
It added: “He remains wholly positive about his treatment and looks forward to returning to full public duty as soon as possible.
"His Majesty has chosen to share his diagnosis to prevent speculation and in the hope it may assist public understanding for all those around the world who are affected by cancer.”
