Canadian Police Throw it Down for Winter Safety Rap Battle

Police officers can save lives, but that isn’t their only talent in Canada. A handful of police detachments across the country have started a full on rap battle with one another.

It all started with Kindersley RCMP in Saskatchewan posting a rap on their Facebook. The rap was to the groove of Ice Ice Baby and it was about winter roads.

Snow is back and these roads are glistenin'
The snow grabs a hold of me tightly
Slippery like a skating rink daily and nightly
Will it ever stop? Yo, I don't know
Don't turn off the light to watch the ice glow
To the extreme, I rock winter tires like a toboggan
Put your seatbelt on so you don't hit your noggin.”

After the song started to get attention the Edmonton Police Service turned their mic on and wrote some lyrics to the Fresh Prince of Bel-air Song.

Now, this is a story all about how
My car got flipped-turned upside down
And I'd like to take a minute
Just sit right there
I'll tell you how my car spun out of control in mid-air.

On the streets of Edmonton I wasn’t phased
Summer driving was easy most of the days
But then outta nowhere things got cool
All the water froze up in my grampa’s pool.

Then the storm filled the skies, yeah it was no good
Started making ice patches in my neighborhood
I locked up the brakes and my mom got scared
My car hit the ditch, ‘cause I wasn’t prepared.

I whistled a tow truck and when he came by
He suggested “winter tires, and take more time.”
If anything I could say I drive more safe now
I realized that my bumper ain’t no snow plow.
He dropped me back home, about 7 or 8
And I yelled to the trucker 'Yo home smell ya later'
I looked at my wheels
Not to be taken lightly
Driving’s a privilege and I gotta do it politely.”

The Calgary Police Service had to join in the fun and wrote a song based on I like Big Butts.

“I hate winter and I cannot lie
You other drivers can’t deny
When a storm blows in with an icy, snowy glaze
And a snow pile in your way
Tires get spun”

Coronation RCMP then received some inspiration from Taylor Swift and her hit song Shake it off.

“Police gonna chase, chase, chase, chase, chase

I know this isn’t safe, safe, safe, safe, safe

I just should’ve scraped, scraped, scraped, scraped

Scraped it off! Scraped it off!

So the moral of the story is to get prepared for winter driving because the snow is coming. But the real question is when are the B.C. police officers going to join in and show the country that we have mad rapping skills too?
