Trump responds on Twitter after Golden Globe diss by Streep

Donald Trump can’t seem to go a day without making headlines.

On Sunday night, when much-loved Hollywood actress Meryl Streep was awarded the prestigious Cecil B. Demille Award at the Golden Globes, she didn’t miss out on the opportunity to make a political statement.

While never actually mentioning the president-elect’s name, Streep talked about how the room was filled with the most vilified people in today’s society, including Hollywood, immigrants and the press.

“Hollywood is crawling with outsiders and foreigners. If you kick them all out, you’ll have nothing to watch but football and Mixed Martial Arts, which is not the arts,” she said.

Getting even more emotional, Streep talked about what she called the most powerful performance in 2016, which she stunned her.

“It sank its hooks in my heart. Not because it was good, there was nothing good about it, but it was effective and it did it’s job,” she continued, obviously referring to Donald Trump’s presidential campaign.

“It was that moment, when the person asking to sit in the most respected seat in our country, imitated a disabled reporter, someone he outranked in privilege, power and the capacity to fight back. It kind of broke my heart when I saw it and I still can’t get it out of my head because it wasn’t out of a movie, it was real life.”

She said it’s those kind of behaviours that give permission for others to act the same way.

“Disrespect, invites disrespect. Violence incites violence. When the powerful use their position to bully others, we all lose.”

Well, it wasn’t long before Trump clapped back at Streep on Twitter.
