‘Chicago’ razzle dazzles Kelowna fans

The cast of Chicago tore up the town on Wednesday for their debut at the Kelowna Actors Studio.

Their take on the classic musical was wildly entertaining...and just wild in general.

If you have a chance to take in the nearly sold-out show, you won’t be able to take the smile off your face.

The characters are quick on their feet, with snappy comebacks and one-liners that you can’t help but love.

The costumes are amazingly scandalous, with plenty of lingerie and mesh. (If you’re looking for a family show, you may want to sit this dance out).

The actors were pushed to the limit with monologues, belt-it-out choruses and non-stop dance numbers--taking them around the stage, over chairs and high in the sky.

Lyndsey Wong, who played Velma Kelly, gave a standout performance as the A-list-to-washed-up murderer who is having a difficult time giving up the spotlight to the fresh new killers in jail. She was constantly putting on a show, turning up the drama, busting a move and singing her heart out.

Casey Easton as Billy Flynn was definitely one to watch. “All he cares about it love,” but he also has a constant desire for the next $5,000 cheque. The money-hungry lawyer was hilarious, sprinkling the show with doses of reality and unreal ego.

On the other end of the spectrum was “Mister Cellophane” himself. Darren Scuffi as Amos Hart was adorable in everyway. The awkward and uncomfortable character is so in need of self esteem that he just can’t seem to get anything right. You’ll be going “Awhhh,” everytime he hits the stage.

The set of the play was very minimalistic, but didn’t take away from the everything that was going on on stage.

If you’re a fan of the musical or the movie, you won’t want to miss out on this dinner theatre, showing from February 8-26th. I found myself singing along to every song and moving along with the music (sorry to everyone behind me).

All in all, I don’t think I would’ve changed a thing.
