Kelowna’s Newest Festival Will Bring Art to the Streets

The inaugural Festivals Kelowna Arts on the Avenue festival will take place on July 30th, and it is expected to be an exciting new event.

The event will run from 5:00 to 10:00 p.m. on Thursday, July 30th on the 300 block of Bernard Avenue in front of the Royal Anne Hotel. The festival has sold out of artist spots and a waiting list is underway for others looking to participate.

“When we announced this new artisan event model back in April, we were blown away by the high level of enthusiasm and support that was being shown for the idea,” explains Renata Mills, Executive Director of Festivals Kelowna. “Our Program Assistant Lisa Brown has been busy developing the event and it’s shaping up to be pretty cool. As a professional visual artist herself, she has participated in countless shows and knows what will or won’t work for an artist’s event, not to mention the fact that brings such a unique perspective on what elements to add to create a funky and fun experience for people who are attending.”

The festival will feature over 40 high quality artists from a variety of disciplines selling unique, handcrafted products. There will be performing artists, live demonstrations, and presentations by local and Okanagan Valley artists. There will also be two “community art” projects where event patrons can participate in creating a giant art piece.

Working with five local, successful, artist collective partners, Arts on the Avenue will feature artists from such artistic streams as fibre art, jewellery, pottery, painting and more. Artist partner groups include the Kelowna Farmers & Crafters Market, Fabulous Finds, Etsy Marketplace Show, the Kelowna Christmas Show and Craft Culture, and the Lake Country Art Gallery.

The event is free to attend and promises to be intriguing and an exciting addition to Festivals Kelowna’s many summer events.
