1. Another California mass shooting kills 7

Another seven people are dead after California’s third mass shooting in as many days. As the state still reeled from the weekend shooting in Monterey Park that killed 10 people, another seven were gunned down by a 67-year-old suspect in Half Moon Bay on Monday. The suspect was arrested and police are still trying to figure out a motive.


2. Five billion people at increased risk of death due to trans fat: WHO

A new report from the World Health Organization claims that five billion people are at an increased risk of heart disease and death due to trans fat. The report says that governments need to do more to ban industrially-produced fats, which clog arteries and are commonly found in cooking oils, spreads, packaged foods and baked goods.


3. Tim Allen denies flashing Pamela Anderson on set of “Home Improvement”

Tim Allen has responded to allegations by Pamela Anderson that he once flashed the young actress on the set of “Home Improvement.” Anderson said the incident happened in 1991, when she was 23 and Allen was 37. She alleges that he opened his robe and quickly flashed her, saying that it was only fair because he had seen her naked. Allen said that it never happened and he would “never do such a thing.”


4. Doomsday Clock now at 90 seconds to midnight

The Doomsday Clock has been reset. This morning, atomic scientists revealed their latest estimate on how close they believe humanity is in 2023 to annihilation due to existential threats like nuclear war and climate change. It is now 90 seconds to midnight, a 10 second decrease from the last update in 2020.


5. Oscar nominations revealed

The Academy has revealed its Oscar nominations for 2023. Leading the way is “Everything Everywhere All at Once,” which got a whopping 11 nominations including Best Picture. Many are expecting the film to clean up at the prestigious awards show in March.
