1. Tropical Storm Pabuk makes landfall in Thailand
Thousands of people have been evacuated as Tropical Storm Pabuk hits Thailand. The country is started to get pounded by heavy rain and strong winds, with waves in some affected areas expected to hit three to five metres high. Among the evacuees, tens of thousands of tourists are leaving resorts for safety.

2. DeMar DeRozan records 1st career triple-double against Raptors
DeMar DeRozan sure came to play against his former team. The ex-Raptors star led the Spurs to a big win over the Raptors and, in the process, recorded his first career triple double with 21 points, 14 rebounds and 11 assists. Kawhi Leonard, who DeRozan was traded for, scored 21 points, five assists and one rebound in his first game against his former team.

3. Bachelorette contestant fakes an accent to stand out
When you’re competing against nearly 30 other women, you have to find a way to stand out. The Bachelor premieres on Monday, but a teaser clip posted by the show has already showed a bold strategy from one contestant during the first meetings and fans are loving it. The contestant, Bri, pretends to have an Australian accent when first meeting Colton in an effort to “stand out.”

4. 15 men have been trapped in an Indian coal mine since Dec. 13
Rescue work continues to try and save 15 men who have been trapped in a flooded Indian coal mine since well before Christmas. It’s been over three weeks since they became trapped on Dec. 13 amd hope is starting to fade. There’s been no contact with the men, who were working in an illegal mine, and it’s believed that they’re dead.

5. April Wine frontman reunited with stolen guitar 46 years later
Nearly 50 years ago, Myles Goodwyn’s beloved 1962 Gibson Melody Maker was stolen from him. He surely lost hope in finding the instrument many years ago, but the April Wine frontman has somehow now been reunited with the lost guitar. Goodwyn received a mysterious note about the guitar over the holidays and it was returned to him on New Year’s Eve.
