1. Forest fire breaks out at music festival in Croatia

What should have been a memorable music festival experience became a scary situation in Croatia on Monday night. A forest fire broke out on Zcre Beach, just steps away from where the Fresh Island music festival was underway. Thousands have been evacuated from the site.

2. London mayor rejects giant tulip tower

Plans to build a giant tulip-shaped skyscraper in London have been scrapped. London Mayor Sadiq Khan rejected the 305-metre tower, which was proposed by billionaire Joseph Safra. Khan said the tower “would result in very little public benefit” and it’s hard to argue with that.

3. Over 40 people trapped after building collapse in Mumbai

A building collapse in Mumbai has claimed at least seven lives and dozens are still trapped in the rubble. The four-floor building was around 100 years old and had 15 families living in it. Rescue operations are continuing in an effort to pull any survivors or bodies from the rubble.

4. Welsh town crowned home of the world’s steepest street

A town in North Wales can now call itself the home of the world’s steepest street. Guinness World Records confirmed that Harlech’s Ffordd Pen Llech is the new record holder, beating out New Zealand’s Baldwin Street for the title. The street has a gradient of 37.5%.

5. Powerful earthquake strikes near Bali

A sizeable earthquake struck near a popular tourist destination in Indonesia today. The magnitude-5.7 tremor struck the Bali region with an estimated 7.8-million people living in the “felt area.” The shaking sent tourists and residents into a panic and caused damage to some structures, but no deaths have been reported.
