1. First named storm of the 2019 Atlantic hurricane season is here

The Atlantic hurricane season has officially arrived. The National Hurricane Center has released a forecast cone for subtropical storm Andrew, which has formed over the western Atlantic. Although it’s the first named storm of the season, it’s far from any significant piece of land and is expected to dissipate before it hits Bermuda.

2. Celine Dion joins James Corden on Carpool Karaoke

The latest Carpool Karaoke has been getting glowing reviews from fans. Canadian icon Celine Dion was Corden’s guest and she showed why she’s beloved by millions. Of course, the episode ends with a special Titanic-themed ending in the Bellagio Fountains that had people scramble to get a picture or video.

3. Golden State Warriors advance to 5th straight NBA Finals

Steph Curry and company are off to the NBA Finals for the fifth straight year. The Golden State Warriors completed a sweep of the Portland Trail Blazers with an overtime win in game four on Monday night. The Warriors will take on the winner of the Eastern Conference Finals between the Milwaukee Bucks and Toronto Raptors.

4. Alabama Public Television refused to air episode of Arthur featuring same-sex marriage

On May 13, a new episode of the long-running children’s show Arthur aired and it featured a same-sex wedding. Alabama Public Television decided not to air the episode, which otherwise aired nationwide, saying that “parents trust that their children can watch APT without their supervision” and broadcasting the episode would be a violation of that trust.

5. Measles cases have been reported in 24 American states

Nearly half of all states in America have at least one reported case of measles. A total of 880 individual measles cases have been reported across 24 states, with five of those states being classified as having ongoing outbreaks. The 880 cases is the highest number since 1984.
