PADS is now hiring puppy babysitters within the Okanagan

The perfect job is out there, and we found it.

The Pacific Assistance Dogs Society (PADS) is looking for puppy-raisers, puppy-babysitters and puppy-starters.

PADS is a charity that breeds, raises, trains and supports certified assistance dogs in order to pair them with those who need support in our community. Volunteer programs have been started by the organization to ensure that all puppies receive the care and training they need.

Dog-lovers within the Okanagan now have the chance to volunteer and have the best job ever!

But this isn’t a walk in the dog park!

Puppy-raisers, starters and sitters must be willing to invest a lot of time into these animals as they will one day be working.

Each position has a different level of responsibility, however, all should be treated with seriousness.

The puppy-raiser will be the most intensive and will require the volunteer to raise their new furry friend for a year and a half, starting at eight weeks old. Individuals will need to bring their companion everywhere including work, school and even the grocery store.

This job is important for socializing the dog and getting them ready for working life.

A puppy-starter is less demanding and will require you to have the puppy for about two months. Much like the puppy-raiser, you will need to take the dog everywhere.

The final position of puppy-sitter is a person who steps in if a raiser needs to leave their puppy for a temporary amount of time. Some sitters may also look after PADS young puppies until they are old enough to travel to a different volunteer.

While these jobs seem like a dream come true, remember, they are a lot of hard work!
