The arts scene will be alive and well in the Central Okanagan this weekend with the first annual Kelowna Fringe Festival.
It promises to be a unique showcase of drama, comedy, musical theatre, dance, multi-media works and plenty more.
Kelowna Fringe Festival will take place from Thursday until Sunday at four downtown Kelowna venues.
All four are located in the heart of Kelowna’s cultural district, as the event is being organized by the Arts Council of the Central Okanagan.
On Thursday and Friday, shows begin at 5:15 pm and will be wrapped up by 10 pm, but the performances begin at 12:15 pm on Saturday and Sunday.
It’s hard to anticipate what you’ll get at any of the shows over the course of the four days, as every performer is selected through a lottery and there’s no parameters or censorship on content.
“Because it is a lottery, you never know what you’re going to get with Fringe, and that is part of the beauty of it. It’s egalitarian and open to all,” explained Dustyn Baulkham, executive director of ARTSCO.
“That means guests could see an incredible show or a not so incredible show, but either way, it’s probably going to be mind-blowing and will definitely be worth the ticket price!”
The four local groups performing at Kelowna Fringe Festival are The Emcee Entertainment, Sayhota, New Vintage Theatre and Virago Collective.
