Cat survives 25 days with no food trapped in shipping container travelling from China to BC

The BC SPCA is encouraging animal lovers to make a donation to help a miraculous cat make a full recovery.

Stowaway, as she’s now affectionately called, became stuck in a shipping container that was travelling from China to the B.C. Interior.

The poor cat survived more than 25 days with no food and only condensation to drink as the shipping container made it’s long and slow journey via boat.

It travelled from Shenzhen, China to the Port of Vancouver and it wasn’t even done there, as it was then transported inland to Prince George.

That’s where the six-year-old cat was found by staff of a Prince George auto glass distribution company, severely emaciated and terribly dehydrated.

Stowaway is just starting to make a recovery under strict quarantine at the North Cariboo District SPCA.

“We rushed her to the vet because she was in such poor condition that we knew she would require intensive veterinary care for an extended period of time to regain her strength,” said Alex Schare of the SPCA.

Right now, the cat is being fed small portions of food to ensure her body adjusts properly.

She’s also undergone blood work and will receive a rabies vaccine when she’s strong enough.

SPCA staff have hope that their little miracle cat can come around as she recovers from starvation and trauma.

Anyone who wants to contribute to Stowaway’s around the clock care and other medical costs can donate through the SPCA.

Contributors will be provided personal updates on the cat’s condition and recovery process.
