Travellers heading through Cache Creek should be aware of some very fast-rising water.
According to the BC River Forecast Centre, a flood warning has been issued for the Bonaparte River. As of 7:30 pm on Saturday, the river has been rising rapidly and is flowing at 67 cubic metres per second.
"The river initially rose rapidly from the heavy rain on Wednesday and Thursday, reaching an initial peak of 59 m3/s on Thursday evening," wrote the RFC. "The river began to recede on Friday, but as of Saturday morning has risen rapidly, likely due to the delayed response of flows in the headwaters."
Nearby watersheds, such as the Deadman River above Criss Creek, reached 60 cubic metres per second. Over the past 12 hours, the Bonaparte River has risen at a rate of one cubic metres per second per hour.
In order to keep residents safe in the area, the Village of Cache Creek has put 175 properties on evacuation alert. The alert is impacting approximately 300 different residents. Residents are also asked to stay at least 10 feet away from the river banks.
In addition to the Bonaparte River, a flood watch is still in place for the North and South Thompson Rivers in Kamloops.
