Interior Health issues overdose alert after 2 people die from drugs in Nelson

Interior Health has issued an overdose alert in Nelson.

The city’s police department later confirmed that two people had died and one was in hospital after taking street drugs.

In their statement, Interior Health did not say which specific drugs were used by the people who overdosed.

“Toxic drugs are circulating,” they said.

Interior Health recommends that drug users:

  • Test their drugs with a FTIR machine

  • Take drugs at a supervision site

  • Avoid taking different drugs at the same time

  • Avoid taking drugs alone

  • Take drugs in a room with an unlocked door

  • Take a small amount of drugs as a test

  • Carry a Naloxone kit
