90% of all eligible adults in BC have received their 1st dose of the COVID-19 vaccine

British Columbia has hit a major milestone in the fight against COVID-19, 90.0% (3,893,775) of all eligible adults in BC have now received their first dose of the COVID-19 vaccine with 85.0% (3,676,200) having received a second dose.

From the eligible people 12 and up in BC, they aren’t far behind. 89.6% (4,152,455) have received their first dose of the vaccine and 84.4% (3,910,536) have received their second dose.

The province has now administered 8,156,567 doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Over the three day reporting period, BC is reporting 1,618 new cases of COVID-19. This brings the total number of active cases in the province to 4,966.

This is how daily cases of COVID-19 broke down over the weekend:

• Oct. 22-23: 613 new cases

• Oct. 23-24: 529 new cases

• Oct. 24-25: 476 new cases

From the new/active cases this is where they come from in each region:

• Fraser Health: 699 new cases (2,030 active)

• Northern Health: 289 new cases (1,042 active)

• Interior Health: 254 new cases (665 active)

• Vancouver Coastal Health: 190 new cases (619 active)

• Island Health: 186 new cases (551 active)

• No new cases of people who reside outside of Canada (59 active)

There are currently 366 people in hospital with 149 of those individuals in intensive care.

In the past 72 hours, there have been 20 new deaths bringing the provincial pandemic death to 2,129.

Of the new deaths, six were reported in Interior Health, four in Northern Health and Fraser Health, and three in both Vancouver Coastal Health and Island Health.

The COVID-19 outbreak at the Tofino General Hospital has been declared over, but an additional five outbreaks were reported at healthcare facilities, bringing the active outbreak count to 29.
