‘Today is a positive day’: BC announces no new deaths, permits visitors at care homes

In a written statement, provincial health officials reported 12 new cases of COVID-19 and no additional deaths on Tuesday.

However, the big news came earlier in the day when Dr. Bonnie Henry announced visitors will once again be permitted to visit long-term care and assisted living facilities.

“Today is a positive day for all British Columbians. With the necessary pieces in place, long-term care facilities and seniors assisted-living residences can now begin allowing visitors,” read a press release from the province.

“British Columbians have flattened the curve, single-site staffing is in place and facilities have been given the additional resources to safely allow for seniors and Elders who have been separated from their loved ones to connect once again.”

As of Tuesday, BC has a total of 18 people hospitalized with COVID-19, four of whom are in intensive care and the remaining people recovering at home in self-isolation.

The province officially entered Phase 3 of its recovery plan last week, which notably encourages residents to travel within BC borders this summer.
