A funky Kelowna store is going to be auctioning off a very unique item at an upcoming event.
Unless Market, a new retail outlet in downtown Kelowna is hosting Saving the Rain, an event in support of Elevation Outdoors.
Saving the Rain will feature a silent auction that will auction off seven, one-of-a-kind rain barrels.
Each of the seven barrels were designed by a different local artist, who donated their time and artistic talents to brightening up a unique household product.
“These rain barrels remind us of a simpler time, when it was quite common to collect water for watering gardens and grass in rain barrels,” said owner of the Unless Market, Sarah Coffey.
Each of the barrels are made from reclaimed, food grade, 55-gallon barrels that have been obtained locally.
“Lots of people lost interest in barrels over time because of problems with flooding when placed near a home, but these products alleviate those concerns because they include a custom-designed diverter that is placed into the downspout and prevents the rain barrel from overflowing.”
The barrels will be auctioned off to support Elevation Outdoors, not-for-profit organization that designs outdoor programs for underprivileged youth. All of Elevation Outdoors programs are free so eligible youth can have the chance to pursue outdoor sports.
Saving the Rain is being held February 26th at the Kelowna Art Gallery. Tickets to the event are $20 and can be purchased at Unless Market or online.
