In late May, KelownaNow news director Josh Duncan married his long-time partner Brittany at Cultus Lake.
The two then went to Vancouver Island for their honeymoon, flying to Nanaimo and driving west to spend a few days in beautiful Tofino.
Since they flew to the Island, they needed to rent a vehicle for their travels, and that’s when they made an interesting discovery.
Renting a Tesla Model 3 through Budget was significantly cheaper than any other vehicle.
The cost for a five-day Tesla rental from Nanaimo Airport was $250, while the cheapest available gas vehicle was well over $400.
Despite having never driven an electric vehicle before, and therefore having no experience with charging and trip planning around one, Josh and Brittany decided the savings were too good to pass up and set off on their adventure in the Tesla.

There were plenty of differences between the Tesla and their usual gas cars that took some getting used to, the biggest being the response of the accelerator and gas pedals.
Of course, controlling absolutely everything in the car through the giant touch screen was a new phenomenon that took some getting used to as well.
Josh had some very positive feedback about driving the car, especially its speed and control on the tight highways near Tofino.
But the most positive feedback, as you might expect in these tight financial times, was the $35 in total charging costs for over 500 kilometres of driving over five days.
Josh joined Jim Csek and Kayla Caruana on the latest episode of Energized to discuss his first Tesla experience and how it treated him and Brittany on their honeymoon trip.
Check that out below, and if you're in Kelowna and want to test drive a Tesla, there will be a Demo Drive Event from July 12-14 that you can learn more about here!
