The Raconteurs set to play in Vancouver tonight perform surprise show at record store

Some lucky fans, and one lucky record store, were the recipients of a surprise performance by an American rock band on Saturday as they continue their international tour.

The Raconteurs — comprised of frontman Jack White, formerly of The White Stripes; Brendan Benson; Jack Lawrence and Patrick Keeler — made a post on their Instagram on Friday announcing a live in-store performance.

Comments on the post were a tight mingling between excitement and envy for those that lived in the Vancouver area.

"Please plan a surprise set in Toronto!" said one. "This is Bonkers!" said another.

Neptoon did the same, letting fans and customers know that the band would be putting on a show at 1 pm.

They showed up on the doorstep of Neptoon Records this afternoon with only enough public notice to attract a keen eye — you would think.

However, photos show a packed Main Street in Vancouver in preparation for the show, which was free of charge for those lucky enough to find a favourable position in line. Others stood outside with perked ears hoping to hear from beyond the doorway.

In addition, 50 signed copies of their new album, Help Us Stranger were available for purchase after the show.

The show has since finished and the band will prepare for their show tonight at the Queen Elizabeth Theatre in Vancouver.

The Raconteurs will finish their international tour in Mexico City in mid-November.
