Wacken Open Air confirm first batch of bands for 2020 festival

On the last day of Wacken Open Air 2019, the festival has dropped its first batch of wicked bands for the 2020 event.

Over the last three decades, the heavy-metal festival has been hailed as the “holy grounds” by metalheads across the world.

The annual event brings in over 70,000 people to the small municipality of Wacken, Germany, for a weekend filled with some of the most iconic acts in extreme music.

2020 Will not disappoint fans as already the festival has secured a rare performance from Mercyful Fate, in addition to welcoming Judas Priest who will be celebrating 50 years of metal, Swedish melo-death Vikings Amon Amarth, black metal pioneers Venom and the return of death metal legends, Hypocrisy.

The event will include special performances from At The Gates, who will play their 1995 album Slaughter Of The Soul in its entirety and Sodom who will be welcoming back guitarist Frank Blackfire.

More acts include Death Angel, Sick Of It All, Beast in Black, Nervosa, and Cemican.

Not only can fans expect a stellar lineup, but the festival has announced it will adopt a new theme for next year’s fun, one that will celebrate Maya and Aztech Culture.

According to the festival's website attendees will be in for quite a surprise and will notice the theme permeate throughout the entire grounds.

“This [theme] will, of course, bring a very cool look to it all, but it is way more than that,” reads a release from the festival.

“The food, history, shows, sights and sounds all on the holy ground of Wacken as part of the celebration of heavy music.”

Tickets for the 2020 festival will be on sale at midnight tonight through Metaltix.com!
