Literacy in Kamloops (LinK) has planned a week-long celebration to promote family literacy.
From Jan. 26 to Feb. 2, local organizations will be hosting free activities throughout for families to enjoy during the Interior Savings Unplug and Play Family Literacy Week.
These include a Word Walk Unplugged, Ice Tower Swim, STEAM Activities at Makerspace, Galaxy Slime, Active Tots, a magic show, drumming, a family dance party, sledge hockey, and more!
The goal of the Unplug and Play Week is to raise awareness about the importance of family literacy and having a healthy balance between screen time and active family time.
“There is much research happening on the impact of too much screen time on brain development and results are not yet conclusive. What we are concerned about are the positive activities like socializing, exercise, and sleep that may be displaced because of too much screen time. Unplug and Play Week gives families an opportunity to try out new activities and have fun together,” says Fiona Clare, Chair of the organizing committee.
