Jam packed Halloween weekend in Kelowna

It’s set to be the best Halloween in two years.

With COVID-19 restrictions eased, ghouls and goblins of all ages are set to terrorize the streets to celebrate the spookiest holiday of the year.

From tricks and treats to being chased by a chainsaw-wielding maniac in a field of corn, there’s basically something for everyone to get into the Halloween spirit.

As all hallows eve approaches, we got you covered for all things kids' activities, parties, chilling haunts and terrifying scares.

Let’s dive in.

Family Monster Bash - Oct. 30

To kick things off we got some kid-friendly spooks happening around the Okanagan, starting with the Family Monster Bash at the Capital News Centre.

The City of Kelowna will be hosting their annual family party this October to get the kids out of the house prior to Halloween.

From 1-4 pm, enjoy all kinds of activities, including an obstacle course, a bouncy house, active games on the sports field, Halloween-themed games, face painting, Zorb soccer, free skating and more.

The free event is recommended for ages 2-12, but all friendly monsters willing to bring a donation to the Central Okanagan Food Bank are welcome to attend.

You can learn more here.

Spooktacular Pumpkin Walk - Oct. 29

With the spell-binding colours of fall taking over Mission Creek Regional Park, it’s time to welcome back a classic Halloween tradition.

The Spooktacular Pumpkin Walk is a featured event through RDCO that encourages families to dress up and take a self-guided tour of the park with paths lit up with jack-o-lanterns.

Of course, those jack-o-lanterns are all taking part in the pumpkin carving contest, where they’re entered to win some awesome prizes from local businesses.

Those looking to take part can drop off their carved Jack-o-lantern and LED light at the Parks table - close to the Leckie Road entrance, on Oct. 29 from 11 am to 3 pm.

That evening they’ll be displayed throughout the park from 5 pm to 8 pm, and guests will have a chance to vote for their favourites.

Prizes will be awarded for the scariest, most original, cutest, strangest, and funniest carved pumpkins.

Thrill the World 2022 – Oct. 29

What better way to get into the spooky spirit than participating in the world’s biggest Thriller dance.

The rhythmic ghouls in Michael Jackson’s Thriller music video, stand the test of time as the iconic moves are still performed 37 years later to the classic tune.

Thrill the World 2022 happens at the same time across the world with dances happening in Australia, Brazil, Mexico, Switzerland, Taiwan and right here in Canada.

Kelowna has been lucky enough to see the annual event for the past seven years, with Studio9 hosting the public dance down in Stuart Park.

Put on your best zombie, register at 2:45 pm on Saturday down in Stuart Park and the dance starts at exactly 3:00 pm to match others around the world.

Those looking to join in on the Halloween-themed flash mob can learn the moves here, or just follow along to the beat.

An MP3 given to you at the beginning of your experience makes the 4D adventure all the more terrifying, as hauntingly beautiful scenes and creatures lie in wait over the 80-acre property.

The production runs until Oct. 28 with limited tickets still available online.

On the final night of the production, the company will also be celebrating the return of a crowd-favourite that has inspired countless screams over its 19-year history.

The community processional and dance party will feature the pyrotechnic, stilt-walking wizardry of KINSHIRA, Kelowna's Circus ensemble, and FREAK MOTIF, a Calgary-based, eight-piece funk band.

Guests are invited to enjoy the concession and bar and dance the night away before the evening culminates in the costume contest awards judged by local fashion icons.

This is a haunt for everyone to enjoy, with kids allowed to make their way through the course with no actor jumping out before 7 pm.

After that time though, the scares get pretty real as ghouls and ghosts stalk your every move.

The Myra Canyon Scare Park is running right up to Halloween, find more information and how to purchase tickets here.

Field of Screams - Running until Oct. 30

Another spooky experience happening just outside Vernon is not for the faint of heart.

Heading into its ninth year, the Field of Screams at O’Keefe Ranch has become a bit of a staple in the Okanagan as people come from far and wide to get their scare on.

The four haunted mazes all follow the theme of ‘Theatre of Terror’, with crazed actors running through the corn to scare the absolute wits out of you.

There's Classics From The Crypt, which covers the OG monsters like Wolfman, Dracula, and Frankenstein, then Nightmare Next Door brings you up close and personal with murderous neighbours like Freddy, Ghost Face and Micheal Myers and then Forgotten Space brings you into the crash landing site of some extraterrestrial beings.

The fourth maze, Welcome to the Dark Side, remains completely black with no actors or props but a special twist this year that gives you the option to listen along through your headphones to a spooky podcast; Where the Leaves Fall Purple.

You can purchase your tickets online for the spookiest event of the year, or head down to O’Keefe Ranch to buy tickets in person at one of their cheap nights.
