If you love sports, making new friends and philanthropy, you won’t want to miss out on the eighth year of the motionball Marathon of Sport.
The popular fundraiser is hosted in support of the Special Olympics and aims to help them continue providing athletic opportunities to individuals with intellectual disabilities.
While the event often brings out dozens of loyal participants, event director Derek Fuhr says they are hoping to extend the event’s reach in a big way, urging those who haven’t experienced it before to join in on the fun.
“Trust me, you will make an impact and have a blast doing it,” he said. “It is basically a full day of multi-sport and is purely recreational and social. You do not need to be ‘good at sports’ to join in.”
As mentioned, registration is open to any and all regardless of athletic abilities and is an awesome way for individuals to meet new people while giving back, or for business owners looking to try a new team-building initiative.
Scheduled to take place from 7 am to 4 pm next Saturday, Sept. 21 in Kelowna’s City Park, the fun-filled day will see teams compete in friendly matches of everything from flag football to beach volleyball, street hockey and more.
The best part? Each team will be paired up with one athlete from the Special Olympics, giving you the opportunity to see the impact of your participation first hand.
After a long day of high-energy activity, attendees can look forward to the closing ceremonies in addition to a beverage garden equipped with food and drinks from local sponsors.
Registration for the event is now open, click here to sign up yourself or a team and get a head start on fundraising!
