Roll Up The Rim To Win is back, but not how you're used to

Everyone’s favourite coffee-related game is back, but not the way you remember.

Roll Up The Rim To Win begins today and runs until April 7, and Tim Hortons was originally hoping to push certain parts of the game into the digital world.

That meant that for part of the month-long contest, customers would have to become Tims Rewards members and scan their card or app to actually play Roll Up The Rim.

The move was going to be in an effort to be more sustainable, but now a different factor is causing the chain to make the entire game digital.

"Given the current public health environment, we decided to make a change to our contest," said Hope Bagozzi, CMO of Tim Hortons.

"We have redistributed all $30 million of prizes to restaurant giveaways and our digital Roll Up The Rim contest."

That means there will be no more literal rolling up the rim of your coffee cup this year, so don't even bother trying!

It does, however, make perfect sense, as the contest relied on employees handling rolled up tabs that had been in people's mouths.

"We will always do the right thing for guests, restaurant owners and 100,000 team members," Bagozzi added.

That mean's you'll have to download the Tim Rewards apps if you want to get in on this year's game and the $16 million of prizes available.

Another $14 million has been devoted to in-restaurant giveaways that all guests can benefit from, regardless of whether or not you're playing the digital Roll Up The Rim game.

This year, the grand prize for Roll Up The Rim is a 2020 Hyundai IONIQ electric or hybrid vehicle.

There are also plenty of air mile prizes, CIBC prepaid cards, 55-inch TVs and $25 TimCards available, along with more than 17-million coffee and food prizes.
