When you’re a coffee giant, you have power to declare when the seasons change.
That seems to be what Starbucks is doing with the return of Pumpkin Spice Latte, which will happen later this month.
“Starbucks has declared Tuesday, Aug. 27, the first day of fall,” said a release from the company.
While Canadians may not be ready to trade sunny lake days for orange leaves and sweaters, you can bet that there are plenty of people excited for the return of the popular fall drink.
This will be the 16th year that Starbucks has sold the PSL, a beverage that’s become synonymous with fall.
It’s Starbucks’ top-selling seasonal beverage of all time with an estimated 424 million sold since 2003.
“Starbucks’ PSL is made with real pumpkin, cinnamon, nutmeg and clove, for a taste of the season with each sip,” the company explains.
“It’s handcrafted with espresso and steamed milk and topped off with whipped cream and a dash of pumpkin spice topping.”
There are plenty of ways to customize your PSL as well, like trying non-dairy alternatives, adding an extra shot of espresso or asking for fewer pumps of sauce.
One option that might be a popular one when the drink makes its return in a weeks time will likely be trying it as a Frappuccino, since it will likely still be a bit toasty outside for a mid-day latte.
You could also try a brand new creation from Starbucks, the Pumpkin Cream Cold Brew.
It's a new drink has been in the works for the last few months and the final recipe was picked from more than 10 variations of the beverage.
"The flavours of pumpkin and vanilla perfectly balance the cocoa notes in Starbucks Cold Brew," says a release from Starbucks.
"The result is a smooth and well-rounded beverage that brings out the flavours of the season without being overly sweet."
Being that it's the combination of two of Starbucks' customers' favourite things, pumpkin spices and Cold Brew, it'll likely be a popular option, especially while the weather is still hot.
Starbucks is also adding Pumpkin Spice Madeleines to the menu this year, along with a number of returning fall favourites.
