Kamloops Artist Releases Song in Memory of Best Friend

An artist originally from Kamloops has released a song in memory of his late best friend.

Timo Sargent - Some Other Time (Visual)

I'll never forget the night I found out you had passed away bro. I will never forget the phone call or the skin-tearing desire to get back across the country, run into your house and find you relaxing on the computer, your little smirk awash in the glow of the screen, your jokes ready to return everything to normal. I realized that night how easy it is for us to get caught up in our lives, stop making the extra effort to talk to family and friends and tell ourselves we'll see our loved ones some other time.I realized that night that if you say "some other time" enough, someday there will be no other time. We'll miss you and love you forever Ryan, and we know you're watching us. We are going to make you so proud. The lyrics for the song are at http://timosargent.com/some-other-time-lyrics/ and you can download the song at https://soundcloud.com/timosargent/timo-sargent-some-other-time-prod-by-madus-mardellaProduction by Marcus Maddalena, and hit HD for best quality!

Timo Sargent and Ryan Pinneo grew up playing basketball together from elementary school, all the way through high school and still played after they graduated. Sargent said Pinneo was graced with the nickname “White Flight” because he always seemed to be flying through the air during games.

Pinneo unfortunately passed away near the end of January from a fentanyl overdose.

Kirk Pinneo posted on Facebook shortly after Pinneo passed away saying he believes it was an accidental overdose.

“Ryan took a drug he thought was something else but it turned out to be laced with a fatal dose of Fentanyl. We believe Ryan was totally unaware of the fact that the drug he took was tainted. But, as a result Ryan accidentally overdosed and passed away to young, to soon.”

Sargent wrote the song “Some Other Time” in memory of Pinneo.

On February 25th Sargent posted the music video to “Some Other Time” on his Facebook page saying that he will never forget the phone call when he found out Pinneo had passed.

Not only was Pinneo one of Sargent’s best friends, but he was also a lot of other people’s best friend too.

“Ryan was one of the greatest friends I've had, and that rings true for a lot of people in Kamloops. He was fearless guy who completely changed your life when you were around him. His reckless confidence emboldened you, and he had this hilarious way of speaking. This mixture of voices and phrases and abbreviated words - that you couldn't avoid imitating. Life was just better when he was in it.”

The video for “Some Other Time” starts off with home video of Pinneo in his car, which was a simple yet symbolic start for the video.

“For myself and a lot of guys, summer was defined by drives in his car, accompanied by the best rap we could find,” explained Sargent.

Some of the lyrics also explain the relationship Sargent and Pinneo had, since Sargent is currently away living in Newfoundland, studying at Memorial University.

Sargent writes “Back home like once a year, then it’s ‘yo bro, let’s get a beer’, and you know we’re out past last call, then two months later on the phone, that calls our last call.”

The passing hasn't quite sunk in for the 22-year-old musician yet. Sargent says he expects to get a text from Pinneo asking how he is doing, or saying that he wants to play ball once Sargent is back in Kamloops.

“He was such a hard-worker, and such an intelligent guy, and after he passed, I heard it said so many times - it was always understood that whenever he decided what he wanted to do with his life, he was going to take-off.”

Even though the 22-year-old passed away before he could hear “Some Other Time”, Sargent believes he has heard the song, and of course loved it.
