RCMP have arrested two women and one male involved in a demonstration today.
According to police, just after 9:30 a.m. demonstrators went into the Activity Centre at TRU and disrupted a meeting.
RCMP officers were called when members of the campus security were assaulted. The protesters also allegedly damaged property by pouring paint over the sidewalks and walls of the centre.
Charges have not been formally laid, however, an investigation of mischief and assault is underway.
“The RCMP fully support the right to peaceful and safe protest”, says Cpl. Jodi Shelkie with the Kamloops RCMP.
“But businesses also have the right to conduct meetings. No one has the right to damage property or to put someone else at risk. As soon as we see a situation where property is getting damaged or the public is at risk then we must step in.”
Police are still in the process of confirming the identity of the three who were arrested.
Following the arrest of the three individuals, the other demonstrators left the area peacefully.
