The Kamloops Y calls on the community to help change the lives of 125 girls

The Girl Power Flower Fundraiser is aiming to raise $10,000 to send 125 girls to the 13th Annual YWCA Power of Being a Girl Conference.

Since 2006, over 1,500 girls from the Kamloops School District have discovered their talents and inner strength at the conference. The day is designed by girls for girls to explore the challenges of growing up in an empowering way.

All girls who attend are fully sponsored as part of the Kamloops Y’s belief that young every person needs a chance to participate.

The Power of Being a girl Fundraiser launched on Sept. 4 at both the John Tod and Downtown Y Locations.

A centre of a flower can be found on the wall of each location. Every time a certain amount is donated, a petal is added.

The goal is to have a full flower by the end of the fundraiser on Oct. 25.

Donations can be made online, at either of the Y locations or by phone.
