The fee increase will be for the 2015-2016 school year and there will also be a tuition increase for continuing students. Students intending on returning to school will be paying two per cent more next year while international students will see a 10 per cent increase. According to Vice Provost and Associate Vice President of Enrolment Angela Redish, the fee increases will be used to support investments in student service, learning and research.

The decision for the increase came at the Board of Governors meeting on December 2nd. Students at UBC in Vancouver attended the meeting to oppose the tuition increase and have an online petition that is gaining support. Students at the university have started an online campaign using the hashtag #IAMASTUDENT.
