The mother of a man who disappeared in Kelowna in 1989 is looking for answers one last time.
Denise Horvath-Allan has been fighting for answers since her son Charles disappeared in Kelowna 26 years ago. Originally from England, Charles was only 20 years old when he disappeared while backpacking in Canada. Denise has returned to Kelowna numerous times since to search for answers.

Now, Denise is having “her final trek” from Richmond Upon Thames, England to Kelowna for a memorial service. Denise spent much of her life savings coming to Canada to search for her son, and now that she’s returned, she believes that this will be the last time she can look for answers. On Saturday, supporters are gathering with Denise for a memorial service marking 26 years since her son’s disappearance.
There have been no leads or information about Horvath-Allan’s disappearance since 1989, but his mother refuses to give up until she finds out what happened to her son.

Charles went missing on May 11, 1989, only days after arriving in Kelowna. He registered at the Tiny Town Campground and was working at Flintstones Bedrock City, an amusement park where Grand 10 Cinemas now sits at McCurdy Corner. The son kept in contact with his family throughout his trip, so when he didn’t finalize arrangements to meet them in Hong Kong as planned, he was reported missing by his mother.
The candlelight vigil will be held on Saturday, May 16th at 8:30 p.m. at the sails.
